Aquaman Review

I was surprised that when this movie came out everyone seemed to go crazy over it and they were calling it the best DC movie. I think people had high hopes for this movie because DC has been struggling with it's cinematic universe. Both critically and among fans. Also when Justice League came out, people liked the new version of Aquaman and wanted to see him in his own movie. Aquaman has often been seen as a very silly superhero so people wondered if a movie could actually be exciting. I mean this is a guy that can talk to fish. Well like the character this movie is incredibly silly, but in the best way.

The movie follows Aquaman (of course) living in a seaside town and doing heroic work at sea. But then a woman from atlantis comes to him and tells him that his half brother is planning on starting a war with the surface. Even though he wants nothing to do with atlantis, the only way he can stop his brother is by dethroning him and taking his place as king. So he goes on an adventure to find an ancient artifact to defeat his brother and prevent war. The story is as ridiculous and cliched as you can imagine, but that is kind of the point. The story is just an excuse for just a lot of action and funny moments.

Unlike some of the previous DC movies that tried to be to dark and serious this movie embraces its comic book roots and gives us a fun time. It is fully aware of its silly source material just gives what expect from something like this. Everything from the action to the designs to the acting is all over the top but it all fits with it's tone. Even though its mostly silly it still manages to have some serious and emotional moments as well. I think that is why a lot of people got excited over it because it was such a shift from what we were getting from the DC movies. However,though it is one of the better DC movies, I would not say it was the best. Because it is very over the top it doesn't really give us anything more like a lot of other comic book movies have been doing now. But I guess it didn't need to.

While it is very silly and over the top, Aquaman still gives us a fun adventure under the sea. if you like fun superhero movies than i would say check it out.
