You might think from the title that this movie is about, just that, Stalin's death. That's what thought when I first heard about it, but then when I heard who was in it I thought, "Wait, Steve Buscemi is in a movie about Russian history?" Then when I saw the trailer it looked more like a comedy then a drama. When I saw it I realized that it wasn't a serious telling of a historical moment in Russia's history, it was a satire of it. Knowing that, I think it is one of the funniest movies I have seen this year so far.
I always like political comedies where the people in charge are shown to be incompetent idiots, and The Death of Stalin falls into that category. While it does tell the true story of Stallin's death and the power struggle amongst his associates that followed, it's really just a big British farce. All of the actors, especially Steve Buscemi, are very funny in portraying these Russian leaders as bickering and bumbling guys who don't know what to do. Even though it is mainly a comedy it how corrupt the government was and what it was like for the Russian people living under this totalitarian rule.
While The Death of Stalin might not be that historically accurate it is a very funny and frightful look at the chaotic rule of communist Russia. If you like political satires then I'd say go see it.
